I’m Anu Kovalainen, a family photographer based in Kajaani — my passion is capturing genuine family moments without unnecessary posing. I favour natural light, a calm atmosphere and the surrounding environment; I prefer outdoor sessions where families can be themselves and children can move freely. Why choose me for your family photography? I take a human-centred approach: my aim is for images to convey emotion and everyday warmth as much as beautiful portraits. My experience in portrait photography, newborn photography and family photography helps me create a setting where parents feel at ease and children can be playful — producing natural, timeless portraits and documentary-style moments you’ll want to look back on for years. My working style is relaxed and flexible. I don’t over-direct for the camera; instead I look for situational, authentic moments. If you’d like more posed portraits, we’ll plan those together in advance. If you prefer a more documentary photo story of daily life or celebrations (for example a birthday or christening), I’ll step into the background and document the event naturally. I particularly enjoy working with newborns and small children — the small gestures, looks and touches often create the most touching images. Getting in touch is easy: tell me your wishes, we’ll discuss location options and arrange a schedule. After the session I select the best shots and edit them carefully — my goal is to preserve the authenticity of the moment while delivering technically beautiful images. I strive to make the session enjoyable and stress-free; most clients describe it as a pleasant time together rather than a tense photo shoot. I primarily work in Kajaani and the Kainuu region, but arrangements for other locations are possible if needed.
